This is a movie that the I was sold on seeing the moment I first watched the trailer. An interesting idea for a story plus The Beatles' music, it had my interest immediately.
The story was in some aspects unique and interesting and at some points very basic. At the beginning it is a fun story of this aspiring musician and then it slowly evolved and by the end it is just your basic love story. It worked fine for me though.
What they tried to do with the whole world forgetting the Beatles worked well. It has some pretty funny moments when you realize the Beatles aren't the only thing the world has forgotten. Turns out in this world Coke and cigarettes don't exist either. My problem with how they used this however is the fact it is never fully explained. An event happens and the next morning the world is different and here is a guy who is the only one who remembers it but why just him? Why did the event happen? Is there a way to go back to how things were? We will never know.
I really enjoyed Himesh Patel and Lily James' performances. Their chemistry in the movie works well and the way the movie developed their relationship was done nicely. I think most of the characters presented were great. Patel's parents in the movie are hilarious every time you see them. However, Kate McKinnon's character was just the worst. Every time she came on screen it was just so awkward and out of place. One of the most obnoxious performances I've seen in a movie in a long time.
Overall I think this movie was just fine, not exactly what I was expecting but I enjoyed most of it. I don't think it's for everyone and I could see why some people wouldn't like it. This isn't something to rush out and go see, unless you were already really excited to go see it, in which case go see it and make up your own decision.
